Tanzania's government Gold Audit Program has a mandate to: (i) audit the quality and quanitity of gold produced in Tanzania, (ii) audit gold mine capital investment and operation expenditures for tax purposes, (iii) audit company expenditures on environmental reclamation and rehabilitation, and (iv) review and reconcile its findings with company records. This 2007 GAP report provides an in-depth look at the mechanics of gold auditing and valuation, and presents audit data for a handful of Tanzanian mines, including mines owned by Anglo Gold Ashanti and the Barrick Gold Corporation.
