Organization: Project on Government Oversight (POGO)
This 2008 report from the Project on Government Oversight is the organization's fifth in a series on oil and gas royalty payments made to the US federal government by major extractive companies. It chronicles the corruption and industry influence that were pervasive in a now defunct 'Royalty-in-Kind' (RIK) program (whose receipts once accounted for at least 40% of all royalties collected in the US) and makes recommendations that - when published - helped lead to the US Department of the Interior's cancellation of the RIK program in 2009.
