Revenue Watch will convene members of parliament, activists and journalists from resource-rich countries on 1-2 November to seek knowledge and new opportunites for turning natural resources into social and economic development.

The meeting in Accra, Ghana will include nearly 70 representatives from Ghana, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda, as well as Iraq and Indonesia.

Members of parliament play a vital role in management and oversight of the oil, gas and mining industries. Good collaboration between elected officials, civil society, the media and oil and mineral companies can make the difference between successful development and squandered opportunities in the natural resource sector.

This regional conference will build a platform for information-sharing among all these groups, with a focus on current initiatives, best practices and lessons learned. Revenue Watch and our partners seek to create national and international communities of practice that provide ongoing chances for collaboration.

Dignitaries from the Ghanaian government will kick off the proceedings Monday morning, 1 November at Le Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

In addition to parliamentarians and experts from RWI and our fellow organizers, the event brings together partner groups from the six countries where RWI is currently conducting parliamentary programs.

The forum is jointly organized by the Revenue Watch Institute, the Parliamentary Centre and GIZ of Germany.
