Take Action on EU Transparency Law

Multinational companies are lobbying fiercely to stop a proposed EU law requiring the oil, gas and mining industry to report what they pay to governments of resource rich countries for their natural resources.

As part of an international effort to keep oil and mining company reports detailed and honest, the ONE Campaign is asking leaders in Europe to stand up to corporate pressure and pass an EU law that helps citizens see the full benefits of their country's natural resource wealth.

The European Commission proposed new transparency rules in October, following the 2010 U.S. Dodd-Frank reform law--a landmark regulation that requires all companies registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to disclose their oil and mining payments to governments.

The Dodd-Frank law and the EU proposals could ensure that poor but resource rich countries channel oil and mining profits into critical economic development, instead of losing public wealth to government corruption and industry profiteering.
