KAZAKH PREMIER, SHELL OFFICIALS DISCUSS COOPERATION

Text of report by Kazakh TV on 2 June

Kazakh Prime Minister Daniyal Akhmetov has met Ron van den Berg, the regional CEO of Shell for the Middle East, Russia and CIS.

They discussed the development of the Kashagan oilfield in the Caspian Sea.

President of Shell Kazakhstan Martin Ferstl also took part in the meeting.

The prime minister expressed confidence that successful implementation of the project will have a positive effect on the growth of Kazakhstan's economy thanks to getting maximum economic profits from production-sharing, the creation of new enterprises, jobs and the increase of investments to the country's education and other social projects.

OSI's Revenue Watch Program Becomes Independent Institute

In June 2006, the Open Society Institute spun off its Revenue Watch program to create an independent Revenue Watch Institute (RWI), a sister organization to coordinate and lead the Soros Foundation Network’s (SFN) work on transparency and accountability in resource-rich countries.

IMF: Azerbaijan's Poverty Reduction Progress
The Government of Azerbaijan submitted its Progress Report on Poverty Reduction Strategy to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in October 2004. IMF Joint Staff has released its assessment of the progress report prepared by the government.
