The Center for Development and Democratization of Institutions in Albania is working with RWI support to organize the seventh annual Eurasia Regional EITI Conference. This project solidifies the coordination among EITI coalitions in the Eurasia region.
Transactions between governments and large international mining companies in many resource-rich Eurasian countries are not transparent and extractive sector contracts are ineffectively implemented and enforced.
Since forming EITI coalitions in 2002 and the years following, most Eurasian countries have held annual regional meetings in order to share information and collectively plan transparency campaigns at the regional level. In addition to this ongoing agenda, four working groups that were formed during the previous annual conference to investigate specific topics are presenting their final reports.
Mongolia and the Kyrgyz Republic were recently recognized as EITI-compliant countries. With countries in the region at various stages of EITI implementation, it has become increasingly important that national coalitions meet to align their knowledge and activities.
The Center for Development and Democratization of Institutions (CDDI) is an Albanian non-profit organization that helps raise awareness among citizens on governance, transparency and human rights standards and good practice.
