Agenda Participation 2000 (AP 2000) used RWI support in 2010 to increase public awareness in Tanzania of changes in mining policy and the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). AP 2000 analyzed the implications of the new legislation for citizens’ livelihoods, produced public announcements for television and radio and conducted surveys to measure public awareness before and after the release of Tanzania’s first EITI report.
The new mining act adopted by the government in 2010 incorporated some reforms proposed by civil society, but did not adequately address important transparency issues such as corporate social responsibility and progressive tax regimes.
Agenda Participation 2000 (AP2000) is a non-governmental organization and consultancy group working to promote a culture of good governance and democratization in Tanzania. The organization conducts civic education, training and documentation of issues that can strengthen citizen engagement in the governance, democratization and development process.
