Promoting Transparency and Public Engagement in the Mining Industry Sector in Vietnam

Consultancy on Development (CODE) worked in 2010-2011 to improve revenue transparency in Vietnam and ensure the maintainence of high environmental and social standards during mineral and oil extraction. With RWI support, and with implementation assistance from Pan Nature, CODE wrote and disseminated studies for policy makers and the public to use as resources, including an overview of key issues in mineral extraction in Vietnam, the “resource curse” and the legal framework of mineral resources. CODE and fellow NGO Pan Nature also organized a national conference on mineral management and the applicability of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Vietnam, and provided recommendations to the government for the anticipated amendment of the Mineral Law.

CODE and Pan Nature are national non-governmental organizations that promote better governance in the mining sector in Vietnam.
