Country: Azerbaijan
Organization: Center for Economic and Political Research
The Center for Economic and Political Research (FAR Center) worked in 2010-2011 to improve the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Azerbaijan. Using RWI support, the FAR Center presented the parliament and media with a draft law to regulate EITI implementation, created a better methodology for compiling EITI reports to correct weaknesses found in previous reports, and wrote and disseminated a policy brief on disaggregating EITI data for use in advocacy campaigns.
Although Azerbaijan was the first country to acquire EITI compliant country status in 2009, the government has limited the implementation process to releasing EITI reports.
The FAR Center is a member of the EITI Coalition in Azerbaijan and was the coalition’s fiscal agent for 2010-2011.
