Organisation pour le Renforcement des Capacités de Développement (ORCADE) is building the capacity of Francophone African civil society organizations (CSO) to actively participate in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) implementation process. With support from the World Bank Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Improving Civil Society Engagement in EITI Implementation, through Revenue Watch, ORCADE is organizing a workshop where CSO representatives from 15 countries learn EITI implementation best practices from each other, find ways to improve the future EITI reports of governments in the region, and decide how to best disseminate relevant EITI information to the general public.
Although thirteen countries in Francophone Africa have committed to implement the EITI and more are expected to join, the reluctance of some governments to fully implement the initiative and adopt standard reporting practices has shed doubt on how sustainable the initiative will be in the region unless CSOs strengthen their oversight role.
ORCADE is based in Burkina Faso and specializes in building the capacity of communities that live in mining regions.
