Mozambique became an Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) candidate country in 2009, but political uncertainty has delayed implementation. In the meantime, Mozambican civil society created a network to raise citizen awareness of EITI implementation and transparency in the oil, gas and mining sectors.
Kuwuka JDA is organizing public meetings in mining regions where citizens learn to apply information from Mozambique’s EITI reports to monitoring government budgets and revenue spending. The group is also holding discussions for CSOs and media representatives on EITI implementation. These activities are supported by Revenue Watch through funding from the World Bank's EITI Multi-Donor Trust Fund.
Kuwuka JDA is a youth and environmental advocacy organization that works to empower rural communities and CSOs to become active participants in natural resource governance.
