Niger Delta Citizens and Budget Platform (NDCBP) created media materials to communicate lessons and project activities from its three-year effort to raise citizen awareness about budgeting, transparency and general fiscal discipline in the Niger Delta. With support from RWI, the group developed radio infomercials and print advertorials, produce a short video documentary on project activities and impacts, and manage the launch of an interactive Web site.
Though NDCBP's advocacy on regional budget transparency has led to changes in citizen and government behavior, linkages between this work and the results had not been adequately documented. With RWI support, NDCBP analyzed connections between oil dependency, socio-economic problems, and lack of citizen participation in the budget process. In 2009, as a result of these efforts, the Nigerian government introduced a comprehensive economic policy reform bill.
NDCBP is a coalition of civil society organizations that promote mass mobilization to combat corruption in public offices in the Niger Delta and community participation in budget development and monitoring.
