Dissemination and Discussion of DRC's 2007 EITI Report

To better engage civil society groups and others in the Democratic Republic of Congo's EITI process, Southern Africa Resource Watch (SARW) developed a simplified version of DRC's EITI report issued in 2007. Although the original report contains important information about DRC’s rich mineral and oil sectors, its contents were not presented or distributed in a way that was accessible to the wider public.

With support from RWI, SARW summarized the report, translated it into several local languages, and held discussions in six oil and mining provinces with groups from government, business and civil society. SARW also collaborated with local radio and television outlets to promote public debates on the EITI process.

SARW is a program of the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa whose mission is to ensure that extraction of natural resources contributes to sustainable development in Southern African countries.
