Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) used RWI support in 2010-2011 to research existing oil, gas and mining regulations, contracts and revenue distribution practices; formulate policy recommendations; and disseminate the results to stakeholders in all sectors. ICW also trained subnational government officials and oversight bodies from other sectors on revenue management issues as well as the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), in order to encourage these actors to participate in the EITI implementation process.
Indonesia is an EITI candidate country, but very little information on the oil, gas and mining sectors is made available to the public. The laws regulating the management of natural resources contain contradictory provisions, making it difficult for various government actors to clearly define their responsibilities and for CSOs and the media to be effective monitors.
ICW monitors the distribution and spending of state revenues generated by oil, gas and mining activities in Indonesia.
