Support for Mining and Development in Mongolia
In 2006 and 2007 RWI work in Mongolia focused on transparency and accountability in the mining sector working closely with Open Society Forum (OSF)-Mongolia and other strategic partners including the Central Asia and Caucasus EITI Coalitions. OSF led civil society representatives in joining forces to promote the implementation of EITI in Mongolia and establish the Coalition of NGOs to support EITI, in August 2006. From 2006-2007, RWI and the World Bank have financed capacity building of local civil society organizations participating in and promoting the EITI process in Mongolia; but EITI implementation has been on and off, and much work remains to move the process forward. With RWI support, the Forum has also provided several policy analysis and recommendation memoranda to policymakers on issues of taxation, fiscal projections for specific mines, and improvement of the legal environment; this assistance consisted of periodic country visits, with distance consultation, commentary and analysis in between. RWI and OSF are also working to build capacity of local CS movements, providing information and assistance with participation in international and domestic seminars, workshops, and other activities aimed at giving CSOs greater participation in policy decision making.

Financial Summary
Revenue Watch and our partners engage in increasingly diverse forms of public finance monitoring, including service delivery, participatory budgeting, and aid and expenditure tracking. Our partners are coalescing into an indigenous-led network of non-governmental organizations at the forefront of the battle against corruption and abuse of the public interest.
Grant-making is RWI's primary tool for engaging civil society in resource-rich countries and is an important means to motivate, support and build grassroots movements that create sustained local and international demand for revenue and expenditure transparency.
RWI takes a comprehensive approach to improving governance and development across the entire value chain, from the organization of extractive production, revenue generation, and revenue management, and through to the expenditure processes and national development outcomes.
